Foundations of University Teaching and Learning

This course is designed to provide an introduction to the fundamentals of university teaching and learning within the ANU context. It consists of six half-day intensive workshops, and may be taken as a professional development course or as an award course.

• Staff new to the ANU and/or new to university teaching

• Continuing academic staff interested in obtaining an overview of the foundations of university teaching and learning

Curriculum

• an examination of the learning process
• the principles of designing curricula
• the articulation of student learning outcomes
• approaches to encourage student engagement and active learning
• an examination of student diversity
• approaches to designing inclusive curricula
• the principles of flexible learning and delivery
• an introduction to flexible learning technology
• the theory and practice of linking research and teaching
• the principles of designing assessments that promote learning
• the principles of providing effective student feedback for learning
• approaches to evaluation for improving the quality of your teaching.
  

There are 3 options available to participate in the Foundations of University Teaching & Learning. 

1. You can formally enrol in EDUC8100 as an award student under the Graduate Studies Select [2] program. This option will enable you to include the course in a Graduate Degree. Successful completion of the course requires attendance at all workshops and satisfactory completion of assessment.
    
2. You can register as a full-participant for professional development [3] purposes. This option will involve performing all associated reading and assessment tasks. Attendance at the workshops and satisfactory completion of all assessments will be acknowledged with a Certificate of Successful Completion. Use this [4] registration form.
    
3. Alternatively, you may register as an auditing-participant for professional development [3] purposes. This option does not require you to perform associated reading and assessment tasks. However, it is strongly recommended that you do the readings for each workshop in order to gain the full benefit of the course. Attendance at the workshops will be acknowledged with a Certificate of Attendance. Use this [4] registration form.

SIDECARS - Support, Inspiration and Development for Early Career Academics and Research Students  [8]

The purpose of SIDECARS is to assist early career academics and research students who are course coordinators and lecturers, providing a much needed resource and preparation assisting participants in the transition from student to academic.
